News http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php YASDC Programmer's News en-us Version 2.85 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=44 Greetings and good day!

I have done a couple of updates to the program per user requests.

BUG FIXES:

Printing addresses with an "&" in the address resulted in an underline space_character ("_") to be printed and not a "&". Program has been fixed and now prints "&" correctly.

OTHER CHANGES:

To conform more closely with USPS Envelope Specifications the following have been implemented:

  • Addresses are printed in ALL CAPS
  • Between City and State there is a single space (" "), the comma-space (", ") has been removed
  • Between the State and Zipcode there are two spaces (" ")
  • If the line below the Company/Name line contains "ATTN" then this line is printed first (above) then the Company/Name line is printed second (below) followed by the street address below.
Example:
Old Way
      Company Name
      Attn: John Doe
New Way
      ATTN: JOHN DOE
      COMPANY NAME

At some point in time the auto-update function "broke" and I have been unable to fix it as of yet (time to test, etc). Therefore, in order to update your installation please follow these instructions

CURRENT INSTALLS
Go to the install directory (normally, the program install directory will be either C:/Program Files/Envelope Printer or C:/Program Files (x86)/Envelope Printer) and rename the EP.exe file to EP_old.exe.

Next, come back here and right-click the below File link and "Save Link As..." Navigate to your Program install folder and save the file as EP.exe (you can save it as EPv285.exe and then copy and rename if you like). There must be a program named EP.exe in order to run.

The new version 2.85 exe can be downloaded by right-clicking HERE and selecting "Save link as..."

MD5 Hash for the file is 8330e9945265809cd005aacf4b2e20f2

PRO version users: Once you put the new EXE file in the correct directory the first time you run the program you may need to click through the HELP->Enter Activation Code menu item. If the licensing files are intact and correct the program should automatically "refresh" to the PRO version. If there are any problems you may have to go through the "re-activation" process. Simply enter your original activation code received after purchasing the PRO version, enter your current password (whatever you originally set during the first activation sequence), for the new password you MUST USE A PASSWORD that has NEVER been used in the past. If you have lost your activation code or you need your password reset please contact me at ep_support@yasdc.com and I will assist with getting you back up and running with the PRO version.

SALES SUSPENDED http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=43 Greetings and Good Day!

I regret to inform visitors to our site that software sales are temporarily suspended. This suspension is caused by the unexpected closure of our eCommerce vendor on August 1, 2016.

At this time we are evaluating new eCommerce vendor solutions. As soon as we have selected a new solution and developed the new integration with our website we will restart selling Envelope Printer software. As we are a small part-time company the resolution may take several weeks to a month.

YASDC appreciates your patience's in this matter as we work to resolve the issue;.

$8.99 price error http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=42 It has just been brought to my attention that if you use Help->Check for Updates you will be offered Envelope Print for $8.99. This is an error. The program is now priced at $12.99 and has been since January 2013. Since I originally release the program there have been changes made to the program compiler that I use that create problems when I attempt to re-compile new programs. To make changes, I must make major changes and just have not had the time to do this. I apologize for any problems and inconvience that this may cause.

Version 2.80 file error corrected http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=41
The "programmed error" prevented the program from "keeping" the PRO Activation settings and requiring a reset every time you started EP.exe. This error has been fixed and the program will retain the settings. The links in the prior post take you to the corrected version so simply follow the instructions in that posting to get the most up to date version.

For those downloading directly from our website and wish to confirm the authenticity of the files the current MD5 hashes are as follows:

EP.exe MD5 = "66a94ce6bb5d1c2bcb67c071b1b7febf"

epInstaller.exe MD5="092c5d0e8b07fa72131e2c9dfe6aa50c"

For those interested I use the MD5 Context Menu application from Bullzip. You can find the program here

This company also makes the excellent PDF Print Drive BullZipPDF that I use.

I do not think any, if many, people got a hold of the bad download. If you did I sincerely, apologize for the inconvienence that this error on my part might have caused you.

Interim Update version 2.80 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=39
Because it is going to take significantly more programming time than I initially planned, mainly because I keep adding in new features, I have decided to do a small update to Envelope Print v2.57. I have been doing small fixes to the program over the past year, but had not released those versions to the public as the changes were fairly minor. Needless to say, I have decided to make a new public release that incorporates all of the fixes plus a few new features. The release will be version 2.80 and not v2.60 as versions 2.60-2.79 were all minor bug fixes over the past several months that were never formalized and released to the public. Version 2.80 will be released in the next few days, beginning of next week at the latest.

Overall, this version corrects problems with some printers, corrects blank records from being added to the address file, allows for printing Return Address only envelops, provides a streamlined multiple copy print function, does away with the number of copies to print pop-up in the Pro version, allows users of the Pro version to add a 250 x 250 pixel logo/picture to the left of the Return address.

Here is a screen shot of the new program interface (basically the same just a little re-designed)

Notice in the upper right corner the ability to add a logo or image to your Return Address. This image is 250 x 250 pixels in size. If you use a large photo it will be resized. I am not saying that a large photo will look good at the resized dimensions, just saying the program will auto-resize as needed.

The logo/picture will print in color if it is color and you use a color printer, otherwise it will be black and white on a standard printer. Here is a sample of the output from the Pro version with the logo.

Hard to tell the Boogerman is a Boogerman, but you can tell it is in color. I may be changing the size of the logo from 250x250 to 300x300 or 400x400 after more testing is completed.

Other changes include, the About button has been removed to enlarge the printer selection drop-down and make room for the Number of Copies to print box. In the standard version the Number Copies is set at 1 and can not be modified. In the Pro version there will no longer be a pop-up box asking for the number of copies to print. The purpose of this change is again to make the program that much easier and faster to use by eliminating an extra window and click by the end user.

Other than those two major changes the program is currently the same as in the past, other than behind the scenes changes that fix reported bugs and problems.

For non-Pro users your main interface window will look like this.

Double-clicking the image box will be the same as clicking on Help->Purchase PRO. Also notice the "Number Copies" box at the bottom is greyed out and is a read-only box.

Again, just doing some final testing over the next few days and will be getting the update ready for release near the end of this week or start of next week. Might end up being a Memorial Day release as I will have extra time this weekend to get everything prepared.

As always, Enjoy Life!

Update on Version 3.0 progress http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=38
Lots of progress has been made. I am now ready to unveil the "overall" main screen for Envelope Printer 3.0

Here it is:

Since I am already taking the time to post, I guess I will outline some of the basic features of the screen and how the program works.

For example:

The tree gadget sorting is based on one of three indexes. The Standard index which is highlighted here, will consist of each record being indexed on the Name Line, City, State. Thus if I were to have multiple addresses for say Aetna with one in Anchorage AK, Fairbanks AK and another in Dallas TX, the indexing would be Aetna with the Anchorage AK address listed first, the Fairbanks AK address listed second and finally the Dallas TX address last. You will not actually see the City, State in the Tree Listing, just Aetna, Aetna, and Aetna. Of course you could change the Indexed As field to read "Aetna (Anchorage)", "Aetna (Fairbanks)" and "Aetna (Dallas)". In which case you would now see the "City" portion in the tree listing. The Indexed as field is free-form. Similarly, Alt 1 and Alt 2 work the same way. These two alternative indexes would be "Activated" by simply checking the approptedly named check-box "Alt 1" or "Alt 2".

While these three Indexes allow you to view the information in the address book tree, they do not limit the information seen. In other words, all addresses associated with the UserSet will be displayed in the address book tree. In order, to narrow down which addresses are being listed in the address book tree, to make it easier to find a specific address an address can be assigned to multiple categories. There are a total of ten (10) categories. The first three categories are system defined as "ALL", "Personal" and "Business". The remaining seven (7) categories are user defined under Tools->Options->Categories. You could have a Category of "Bills" for example. Every address that was associated with a monthly bill that you paid would be assigned to the "Bills" category. To do this, you would simply edit each address and check the box labeled as "Bills" (in the example below there are no user defined categories at this time so you will have to use your imagination). The drop down located above the address book tree labeled "Addresses to display" would allow you to select the specific category that would be used to filter the address book tree. So, if in the "Addresses to display" drop down you had selected "Bills", then only the addresses that had the check-box associated with "Bills" under the "List in Categories" section would be listed in the address book tree.

In my prior post I alluded to UserSets. The UserSet being used will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen
(Highlighted here is placeholder text).

Again, the UserSet will include return address information, a bitmap/jpeg logo that will display/print to the left of the Return address, default font's to be used, default printer, envelope paper size, etc. Each address in the address book will be associated to a UserSet. Therefore, you could think of each UserSet as being it's own address book within the address book. However, one address entered under one UserSet will not be available for printing under a different UserSet. The address would have to be entered into each UserSet in order to be present in that UserSet's list of addresses. I am thinking about providing an option that will allow the use of "independent" address books by UserSet to be turned on and off. If turned off, then all addresses will be associated with all UserSets and the UserSet would not be used as another filtering mechanism. If turned on, then the UserSet is just another filtering mechanism associating a specific return address to specific entries in the address book.

Anyway, I hope this provides y'all with a little glimpse into the progress being made towards Version 3.0. At the pace I am moving I am still expecting Beta testing to begin in June/July. I have not encountered too many major problems that would push this back, but then again, tomorrow is another day and anything could happen between now and then. I will also try to post each month at least one update. Most of the programming now, is "behind the scenes" type stuff so will not include too many screen shots.

Take care and enjoy life,

Kevin

Version 3.0 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=37
Shortly after the New Year started I began the programming side of the re-write and discovered that I needed to really, really re-design the use of the program. So instead of the basic "envelope" screen, I am now utilizing a tree-list for displaying addresses. (image below)

As you can see from the above, there will be a Primary Index (normally Last name, First name format).

There will be an Alt Index, which will allow you to define any method of indexing the addresses in your address book.

I am thinking of making it Alt Index 1 and Alt Index 2. Where if no index is selected then the system defaults to Last Name, First Name, City, State.

Alt 1 Index and Alt 2 Index will then be user-definable.

In options you will be able to "define a Template" for the Alt indexs. For example, you might define Alt Index 1 as "{City} {Last Name} {First Name}" and Alt Index 2 as "{First Name} {Address 1} {City}" This will allow you the user to define at least one (and possibly two) different Indexes for accessing your address book.

In addition to the above, I am including support for ALL ENVELOPE types that your printer will recognize. Along with the ability for you to define address positioning on each Printer/Envelope combination.

Finally I am introducing a new feature that I call UserSet. A UserSet is the Return Address and default information a user can define. This will include the Return Address, Font Name, Size and Style for Return and Addressee Addresses and a picture to include to the left of the return address. The UserSet is Address Book independent meaning you can have one address book and multiple UserSets. For example. You could have a UserSet that includes just your name in the Return address field and uses a standard Times Roman Font. A second UserSet might have "The Addams Family" as the name in the Return Address and utilize a "Holdiay's" Font with a Christmas tree picture that prints to the left of the Return Address.

You will continue to be able to have multiple address books, i.e. "Personal", "Business", "Christmas Cards", etc. You could technically have only one UserSet for each address book or you could have multiple UserSets for one address book, and one for all of the other address books.

Overall, I think I am getting around 80-85% of the most requested features implemented into the new software. When I first was designing and analyzing the new program I was figuring 3 months programming time to get to beta testing. While there is still 26 days left in this month until 3 months is finished I am anticipating that it will be closer to 4.5 or 5 months before I get to beta testing.

If you are interested in being a beta tester please let me know via the Contact Us form on this website or sending an email through the program. I am hoping to have this ready to release by June-July. At that point the program price will be increasing to $14.99 or $19.99 depending on how much problem and support I anticipate there will be for the new program. If you know of anyone who wants the program, tell them to get it now while it is still only $8.99. All current users will get the next version at no additional cost. Updates for free for the life of the program.

Take care and have fun in life,

Kevin Perryman

Another Update http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=36
I spent about 14 hours going through all of the design ideas that y'all have sent along with things that I wanted to re-work to begin with. I never realize how much work there is to do until I sit down and start wading through my three folders of information. A lot of the work I did was spent just getting all of my design notes together and organizing in a cohesive fashion.

I am leaning towards the following "program" at this time and am anticipating 3 months re-write from the ground up.

1) Rolodex "based"
2) Envelope Printer
3) Fax Cover Page Printer
4) Fax Cover Page designer
4a) Form Letter Designer/Printer (possible add-on)
4b) Multi-select and print of Form Letter/Fax Cover pages (part of Form Letter Designer)
5) FAST - goal is to still be under 30s to load, select/enter information, print envelope
6) Print to any size envelope that is recognized by the printer
7) Easier adjustment of print alignment
8) all of the current features (as needed/applicable to new environment)

No this will not be Microsoft Word quality word processor/letter writer. The purpose is to be quick and easy. Also, task specific. Therefore, I am really aiming to make this more of a correspondence manager. Any letter, envelope or fax cover page will be stored in pdf with time and date stamp for tracking purposes.

Anyway, just wanted to post another quick update.

Take care

Kevin

Updates and New Versions http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=35
This past year, I became a licensed private investigator. Predominately to do Computer Forensics on behalf of a PI I had been providing computer support to. However, I have also been doing "standard" PI work during this time also, you know, Child Custody surveillance jobs, Suicide/Murder investigations, cold case murder investigations, and so on.

During this time the PI I am working with was able to collect evidence to assist in the apprehension of a gentleman accused of murdering his first wife back in 1962. This case may actually develop into a serial murder case as there are several other women that were associated with this man who have gone missing over the years. If it does it will be the oldest American Serial Killer Cold Case that ended up bringing the killer to justice. You can read about the man and what he is accused of at The Clarion Ledger - "Gone". You can also read about it at the Lake Charles newspaper site

I am also working with the same PI on a case where a man supposedly committed suicide in the presence of his ex-wife. There was a lot of bungling by the police department on this case and we are investigating the potential that this might actually have been a murder.

In addition to these cases, I have attended System Administration and Network Security (SANS) Computer Forensics training and am currently preparing to take my certification test. Once that is done then I am going to get going on an update for the Envelope Print program.

What I am envisioning is a program that is more of a Rolodex with the ability to print 1) Envelopes of any size (based on what your printer can recognize) 2) Fax Cover pages and 3) have some kind of "notes" section for tracking non-printing information (i.e. information that would not print on an envelope).

The screen for the envelope printing will look something like this: (NOT FINAL)

Again this is just a preliminary of the Envelope Print screen. I am actually thinking of changing things up and having the address book be the main screen and from there have the various "actions" branch to the appropriate screen. i.e Envelope Print, Fax Cover page print, Notes, etc.

Anyway again sorry for the long time between updates life got busy. I would anticipate that starting Mid-November I will be starting the new programming of the next version.

Version 2.55 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=32
To get the update follow these steps:

1) Start Envelope Printer
2) Click on "Help"
3) Click on "Check for Updates"

The program will check our webservers to see if there is an update file availabe (which there should be for all users at this time). If your program reports that it is up to date please send a support message using our Contact Form.

When the update is recognized Envelope Printer will close and start an update program which will open a new window and show the status of the update.

Once the update is finished running, you can restart using Envelope Printer.

Your Window Title bar should show either "Envelope Printer Standard v2.55 - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" or "Envelope Printer Pro v2.55 - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".

The main change for users is that an OPTIONS menu item has been added.

The only option at this time is "Disable Zipcode Lookup".

If the option has NO CHECKMARK in front of it, it is turned off and the program will work as normal.

If the option has a CHECKMARK in front of it then the option is turned on and the program WILL NOT do automatic ZIPCODE lookup when you enter zipcodes.

The "tab" order of the fields does not change.

The other change is that if you enter the City and State first and then the zipcode, a zipcode will not be looked up replacing what you had previously typed.

Zipcode lookup will still return City and State in ALL CAPS as this is what the US Post Office regulations state. In fact, the regulation really require ALL fields to be ALL CAPS, but they allow for variance from this provided the address is readable (by OCR and/or human operators). Italices, Bold, Script, "Funky" Fonts, should be avoided at all times. Any of these issues could allow the post office to deny acceptance of the mail piece.

I have spoke to several postal employees and they have all said that they really prefer if CITY and STATE are ALL CAPS and the other information can be Upper/Lower mixed. While this is not "fully" compliant with Postal Regulations it is acceptable.

If you prefer to have City and State in Upper and Lower case, then I recommend that you DISABLE ZIPCODE LOOKUP and type in the City and State yourself. ]]>

Christmas Envelopes http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=31
Envelope Printer v2.50 can handle this. However, you will have to experiment to figure out the correct settings for the Vertical and Horizontal placement of the addresses. The Return address should be alright in location 0,0. The To address will be the one you need to play with.

The easiest (and cheapest) way to determine the correct settings is to take several sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper and cut them down to the size of your envelopes. Even though you already know which way to fee the envelope in the printer (face up or face down) in order for the program to print on the correct side, I still like to draw a big X on one side to represent the back where no printing should occur. Next put the paper in your printer just as if it were envelopes. Now print a test envelope. Adjust the Vertical and Horizontal numbers and print again. Repeat until the Address align where you want them.

Remember this when making changings to the Vertical and Horizontal numbers.

Vertical positive (+) numbers moves the printing down, negative (-) numbers moves the printing up.
Horizontal positive (+) numbers moves the printing to the right, negative (-) numbers move the printing to the left.

Each unit is approximately 1 pixel. However, the program takes the size of the printed output box and centers it first. Then your Vertical and Horizontal adjustments are applied from this location. I do this because I have found that 1mm and 1 pixel are measured differently by different printers. I think it has something to do with the printers print resolution, i.e. (300dpi, 600dpi, 1200dpi). Since I do not know which resultion is being used I can not determine the true number of "pixels"/"dots" per 1mm. I am working on being able to pull the resolution setting from the printer so that I can then provide a Vertical and Horizontal that makes more sense.

If you have any questions please feel free to use the contact form to drop me a line and I will assist in anyway that I can.

Copy/Paste http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=30
These functions DO NOT copy a complete address and allow you to paste a complete address in a different address book.

The copy function works just like any other windows program. Highlight the text that you would like to copy, then either select Copy from the Edit menu, Toolbar or Ctrl+C.

The paste function works by placing the cursor in the field where you would like to paste the clipboard text, then either selecting Paste from the Edit menu, Toolbar or Ctrl+V.

If you do not select a field into which you will paste the clipboard contents then Envelope Printer v2.50 will CRASH. This is a known issue and I am working on fixing it. Basically by insuring that a field is select before the paste function is called.

If you have any issues with this and need clarification please let me know and I will work with you to solve your problem. ]]>

Windows 8 and Envelope Printer v2.50 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=28
I have received a couple of reports (o.k. 3 which is a few not a couple) that there are problems with Envelope Printer v2.50 and Windows 8

.

The program is written in and compiled using PUREBASIC which is not a Microsoft Licensed/Approved/Authenticated product. In addition, I do not have a Windows Developer Authenticode Certificate. Because of this Windows 8 complains by not running my program correctly. This is primarily due to Windows 8 restricting writting to disk operations for non-authenticated programs.

To overcome this problem you can Go to the Program Properties and select compatibility to be an older version of windows like "Windows XP" or "Windows 7". Additionally, you may need to set the program to "Run as Administrator". (I am assuming that Windows 8 is like Windows 7 in respect to being able to set these properties under the Properties of the shortcut, however you may need to change it somewhere else in the system, maybe Action Center?)

Also, just a reminder: I personally have had problems with AVG Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware reporting False Positives with my software. To insure that you have my software, before trusting any download, check the MD5.

MD5 for the installer (epInstaller.exe) 33efd4edc82b086e67f0f3ff8198f85e

MD5 for the current ep.exe version 2.50 454011b0b8af21fa22e05819c290b89f

MD5 for the update25.exe 060deb23d2390598aa8b7114ad1988ca

At this time this is the best I can do to insure that you are getting un-corrupted/changed/altered/replaced files.

If sales of the PRO version take off, then I will apply for a Developers Authenticode Certificate and start providing Signed Executables so that verification and authentication become less of a problem.

Thanks for your understanding and if you have any questions, comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me using the CONTACT form on this website or using the comments below. ]]>

  1. Uninstall your current version (2.10 and prior - you do not need to uninstall 2.50) (NOTE: your user files should remain intact).
  2. Download the version 2.50, if you have not already installed it (see our DOWNLOADS page).
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Download and run this file HTTP:\\www.yasdc.com\updates\ep\update25.exe
MD5 for this file is 060deb23d2390598aa8b7114ad1988ca

Because of the authentication system in v2.50 if you have not installed it before, the update25.exe will not work properly for your system. You must install v2.50 before running the update25.exe program in order to install the proper files for the authentication system to work.

At this point your program should be up to date with all patches. It will read v2.51 at this point if everything is successful.

A NOTE CONCERNING AVG ANTI-VIRUS and MALWAREBYTE'S INFECTION NOTICE:

On my testing system AVG Antivirus and Malwarebytes began reporting the update25.exe file as being infected with a trojan and/or appears to be malicious software. I have run the exe through several cloud anti-virus programs without a problem. It seems that AVG and Malwarebytes are picking up a false positive based on the compiler I use. This has been an issue in the past with previous versions of the compiler and appears to be back in the newest version which I just updated prior to completing the v2.50 project. If you get these errors the files "should" be safe. I can not provide any gurantees that they are safe other than to provide the above MD5 checksum. If your copy of the file has the same checksum it is reasonable to assume that the file is original and the report infection is a false positive. ]]>

NOTES:
  1. Postnet barcodes are being phased out and replaced with the Intelligent Mail Barcode. The purpose of the Intelligent Mail Barcode from what I can see is more for mass mailers and not individual piece mail. Therefore I will not be implementing any type of barcode in Envelope Printer.
  2. I have been asked about providing a "free text" line that would be printed at the bottom of the envelope. Suggested uses were "PERSONAL", "ATTN: {Name}, {Department}", "REPLY REQUESTED", and other types of "NOTIFICATIONS". I have not decided yet if I will provide this or not. I would like more input from everyone. Either use the comments on this posting or send me an email.
  3. Web-Integrated Zip+4 lookup using the USPS postal service website. I am thinking of doing this but, am not sure about Terms of Service and other aspects related to using the USPS website. I am investigating this and might offer it as an "add-on" secondary program.

Moving Forward to Version 2.10 and 2.50 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=24
In the coming months I am going to be introducing a new version of Envelope Printer. At that time there will be a standard version and a PRO version.

The purpose of todays post is this:
I am in the process of "crippling" the current version 2.00 and it will be released as version 2.10. The PREVIOUS VERSION 2.00 will no longer be available and if you have it you DO not want to change to the new versions. Version 2.10 is only for people who are downloading for the first time.

I am going to be removing the ability to change Font sizes for the Sender and To addresses, along with removing the Print Preview option. These are going to be options for the Version 2.50 PRO along with MULTIPLE ADDRESS BOOKS and the ability to save different envelope print location sets.

So here is the DEAL!

If you do not need the ability to have multiple address books, or to save different envelope print location sets, then I recommend that you do not update from version 2.00 to 2.10. Keep version 2.00 with the ability to print preview and change fonts. In fact, regardless of whether you need these features or not, just wait for version 2.50. Again, Version 2.10 is really only for new downloaders of the program.

I DO encourage everyone to upgrade to version 2.50 when it comes out and purchase the PRO version. The price will be $8.99 and will go a long way towards encouraging me to continue support and developement of Envelope Printer.

Again, in Version 2.5 you will get these features:
  • Multiple Address Books, 1 book per Return Address
  • Set Font for Sender/(Return Address
  • Set Font for Addressee/To Address
  • Print Preview
  • Ability to print MULTIPLE copies of the same envelope
  • Ability to print MULTIPLE copies of the envelopes with just a return address
  • Ability to add a .jpg, .png, .bmp image to the left of the return address
Along with all of the original features:
  • File Menu
  • Quick Link Toolbar
  • Clear Fields
  • Double-Click Select name feature
  • Zipcode lookup now performed on the first 5 digits entered into Zipcode field so that Zip+4 can be used
  • Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Blue Hints (toggle on/off)
  • Red Help Text
  • Program Optimization
  • New partial name search feature
  • New "DELETE" name/address feature
  • Easier to use Printer Selection
  • On-screen help for all user input fields

Updates http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=23
Version 2.00 of the software is now the epInstaller.exe file. I have updated the Software description page and the Software download pages.

Still more work to do here and there, but because I maintain 10 websites for clients and all fo the sites were screwed up with the Webserver host backup recovery procedure, I have to get my clients taken care of first.

I will be back to this just as soon as I can, which will hopefully be in the next two weeks.

Version 2 Beta 04 http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=19
Lots of problems and many suggestions have been fixed and/or incorporated into the newest update.

Due to problems with changing over to Windows Vista/7 compatibility on User Access Control (UAC) and File Storage I have had to eliminate the multi-address book option at this time. It will be a version 2.50 release. Since I will not be charging for the Version 2.00 software (since the multi-address books will not be in it) I will also delay installation of the licensing and activation code.

A quick list of new features includes:
- Added auto-update checker to automatically update software from our website.
- Multi-Font Support for Addressee Address
- Multi-Font Support for Return Address
- Print Preview
- Converted BaseInfo.txt to {addressbookname}.inf file
added extra lines to track previous font selections
- Fixed problem with sort - again
- Menus and Toolbars
- Fix File Location Windows Vista / Windows 7 compatibility
- Added Clear button to clear Addressee To address if wrong address selected or decide not to print it
- Added Delete button to delete records
- Double-click on addresses in Look-up table to "auto"-select and return versus having to click "Select" button

Along with additional speed increases and reduction of duplicative coding. File size is still around 150kb which is pretty dang small.

Looking forward to getting the first mass-release of V2.00 out by the end of January 2012.

More Version 2 Info http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=18
One of the biggest changes other than changing font sizes for printed addresses is the request for Multiple-Return addresses. Instead of having multiple return addresses I have decided to go with Multiple Address books. That's right, one address book per return address. During the create new address book routine you will be given the option to "copy" over all of the addresses from another address book. Each address book will be associated with one return address. This allows for you to have 1) addressbook for personal use, 2) addressbook for business, 3) addressbook with spouses return address (same addresses as your addressbook to begin with), 4) an addressbook for whatever other reason where you need a different return address.

With all of the features and updates I am doing, I am also installing a licensing and activation routine. This routine will be only for the "paid" version of the software.

The "free" version will allow for a single address book only. No multiple address books. You can manually change the return address each time you need to.

The "paid" for version will allow for the multiple address books. The standard version will be $9.99 and will allow for installation on upto 3 machines (work, home, laptop). The pro version will be $19.99 and will allow for installation on up to 8 machines. I am trying to work on some kind of additional activations pack, but am having problems pricing this reasonably because of the licensing/activation fees I must pay to the third party vendor. Will let y'all know as I figure stuff out.

Take care, and have a safe and happy holiday.

Version 2 Update http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=17
These are highlights of what I am trying to accomplish.
  • Website Integrated Auto-Update
  • Multiple Return Addresses
  • Ability to Change Printed Fonts (this is where all the work is at)
  • Faster lookup routines (I know it is already pretty darn fast, but every little micro-second I can shave out the better).
  • Menu system (I hate these but with the added Upgrades and Font selection going to have to have 'em now)

Website Integrated Auto-Update

This feature will check the website to see if a new version is available and if it is offer to let you update. You do not have to update, it is just an offer. You will be able to turn this option on/off in an options tab of the menu system.

Multiple Return Addresses

No more re-typing Return Addresses if you want to have different ones. Like the main Addressee Lookup function, you will be able to lookup and select which address to use. The previously used address will become the default for the next time you run the program. Like everything I have done until now, the system remembers where you left off. I like this feature and adding the multiple return addresses will not do away with this ability. Thinking about offering a "default" return address option instead of "remembering" the last used one but don't think I really like that idea. Of course might offer a check box option that is "Remember Last used Return Address". If it is not checked then a "Default" return address must be selected. This gives the best of both worlds.

Ability to Change Printed Fonts

This is the most oft asked for enhancement. The problem with this is that with printing I have to place the text at exact "x,y" positions. With different fonts, spacing becomes an issue. I am trying to develope a method of "block" printing. That is where I put together a block of text that is "auto-formated" based on font size, and I just place the top left hand corner of the complete block in a precise "x,y" spot. This is by far the most cumbersome and difficult change I am making.

Faster lookup routines

Trying to eek out just a little more speed and less resource utilization. Not a major change for the end user but makes me happy I am offering the fastest, most efficient method of handling information. Also, looking at being able to add multiiple indexes within the faster lookup routine. I don't think the multiple indexes will be offered first go around.

Menu System

At this point I am looking at having the following:

File Edit Options Help

Under File->Exit would be the only option
Under Edit there would be  ->Copy ->Cut  ->Paste ->Find/Lookup ->Delete Addressee  ->Delete Return
Under Options ->Defaults
Under Help there would be ->Help ->Check for Upgrade ->About

Anyway, thats about it for now. Also working on several other projects but nothing ready for Beta testing yet.

Take care

Problem with Epson-esqe Printers http://www.yasdc.com/blog.php?d=15
I am working on the problem but can not guarantee that these problems will be fixed. I do want to thank M. Horowitz for bringing these issues to my attention and are grateful for all of the time and assistance he was willing to provide to track down the problems and seek partial solutions.

If anyone ever has any problems with Envelope Print please contact me through the Contact Us page. I am always willing to help anyone who is experiencing problems with any of my programs. I use this program almost daily for the past three years without problems, but I also have limited printers that I have access to.

Thanks!
